History
The Copperopolis Fire
Protection District was established in 1937 to provide fire and
life safety within the District. Presently the District covers
an area of approximately 227 square miles. The agency is headed
by Fire Chief Toney Powers, who is Chief Executive Officer of
the District. Chief Powers reports to five Fire Directors, who
share the ultimate responsibility of managing the organization
and ensuring the protection of life and property within the
District. Together they constitute the Board of Directors. The
District’s Directors are: Walt Ball,
Barbara Cheney,
John Maness, Steve Marks and Steve Nelson.
Presently there are two
fully staffed fire stations. Station 1 (Headquarters) is located
at 370 Main Street. The offices of the Fire Chief, Fire Marshal
and Office Manager are located there. Station I staff includes
one Captain, one firefighter and one paramedic. Station 2 is
located at 1927 Quiver Street. Station II staff includes one
Engineer and one paramedic/firefighter.
Each and every homeowner
pays two special taxes to the District. One of those is
earmarked for fire protection, while the other was established
to ensure that one paramedic is on-duty within the District at
all times. In 2007 the Board of Directors authorized the Chief
to increase that level of service to two paramedics.

Check back often as we
will be posting a comprehensive history of the Fire
Department for informational purposes and to honor
all of those who worked hard to make the
Copperopolis Fire Protection District what it is
today. |
